Health Care

While the Affordable Care Act did not solve all of America’s unique health care challenges, the law made health care far more accessible and affordable for millions of Americans, including thousands right here on the North Coast. I've continued fighting to protect these gains, including pushing back against cuts to Medicaid and the Affordable Care Actthat threaten coverage for millions of Americans.

The mission to bring about universal health care cannot stop with the Affordable Care Act, which is why I am a cosponsor of the Medicare for All Act. I believe it is time for the United States to join other industrialized countries in establishing universal health care coverage. Expanding Medicare to cover all Americans would help ensure that everyone has access to affordable, quality health care.

In 2022, I was proud to help pass the Inflation Reduction Act, which capped the cost of covered insulin at $35 per month for people on Medicare. The law also gave Medicare the power to negotiate prescription drug prices directly with pharmaceutical companies for the first time. In 2026, the first negotiated prices for 10 widely used prescription drugs went into effect, and the annual out-of-pocket cap on covered Medicare Part D prescription drug costs is now $2,100. These are important steps toward making life-saving medications more affordable for millions of Americans.

I've also been a long-time advocate of increasing access to health care services in rural areas. In 2026, I introduced bipartisan legislation to help rural hospitals recruit and retain physician anesthesiologists. I've also led efforts to expand rural veterans' access to VA health care systems and improve telehealth access.

Beyond expanding access to care, I'm working to protect patients from deceptive health care practices. In 2025, I reintroduced the Health Care Sharing Transparency Act to strengthen consumer protections and ensure Americans have accurate information about their health coverage options.
