Happy Earth Week! Now Let’s Protect It: A Message from Rep. Huffman

Hello and Happy Earth Week!  This is one of my favorite weeks of the year because some of the most impactful work I do in Congress is centered around protecting this planet we call home. My fellow climate champions and I have made a lot of progress in the past few years under President Joe Biden - I’m talking historic stuff here. We’ve been working on:    Protecting the Arctic and our public lands from Big Oil development;   Cutting down plastic pollution at the source;   Transitioning to …  Continue Reading

Over $10.2 Million in Funding Wins Heading to the North Coast: A Message from Rep. Huffman

Hello,  The Community Project Funding process in Congress is an impactful way for me to deliver federal funds for critical projects in our region. This allows me to work hand-in-hand with local partners and constituents to identify programs and initiatives where this additional federal funding can make the difference between a transformative project happening or not. And I’m excited to share that for the third year in a row, I was able to secure funding for 15 more transformative local …  Continue Reading

Temporary Fix for FAFSA Applications: A Message from Rep. Huffman

Hello, As some of you may know, there was a glitch in the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application process that prevented students from completing their forms if their parents don’t have Social Security numbers. I know what a huge barrier and burden this posed for students - so I immediately got to work to fix it. I’m happy to share that following my outreach to the Department of Education, they developed new guidelines for a temporary workaround that allows students to …  Continue Reading

Joint Statement by Congressman Jared Huffman and Muslims of Marin

We are better than this: In America, we pride ourselves on our diversity, where people from all walks of life, beliefs, and cultures can make a home for themselves free from persecution. But the ugly truth is there has always been an undercurrent of prejudice and discrimination. Throughout history, we’ve been able to overcome hate and violence. Today, we are once again faced with a surge in incidents of hate crimes and hate speech directed towards Arabs and Muslims. We are not always going …  Continue Reading

Over $26 Million in Funding Wins for the North Coast: A Message from Rep. Huffman

Hello, As I look back on the progress we’ve achieved under President Joe Biden and Democrats in Congress, I’m pleased to share that the historic laws we passed are continuing to deliver real results right at home. One of the latest wins for the Bay Area is nearly $22 million in federal grants, thanks to the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL), to help upgrade and revitalize the ferry system. This will improve safety and reliability for the countless commuters and visitors who rely on this …  Continue Reading

How 2 Years of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law Has Changed the North Coast: A Message from Rep. Huffman

Hello, In the two years since President Joe Biden signed the historic Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, we’ve invested in more than 40,000 projects across the country to build a better America - from repairing roads, bridges, and highways to creating safer, greener, and more accessible transportation systems.  Rep. Huffman celebrates funding for the SMART extension of passenger rail.  I’ve been focused on making sure the North Coast gets its fair share of these …  Continue Reading

Update on Congressional Action Regarding Middle East Conflict: A Message from Rep. Huffman

**Updated Monday, 11/6/2023** The tragic conflict ignited by Hamas’ terrorist attacks has unfortunately spawned a spike in vile antisemitism in many of our communities, including on college campuses.  I have always denounced this hateful scourge in all its forms and locations.  I’m proud to cosponsor H.Res. 839 which categorically condemns antisemitism on college campuses, full stop.  To my friends in the Jewish Community: I want to apologize for my ill-considered vote on H. Res. 798 which …  Continue Reading

A New Speaker and Concerns about MAGA Extremism and the Separation of Church and State: A Message from Rep. Huffman

Hello The good news is that after an unprecedented 22 days without a Speaker of the House, Congress is open again. House Republicans finally resolved their internal chaos and dysfunction and selected Rep. Mike Johnson of Louisiana to be the new Speaker. It is shameful and inexcusable that more than three weeks of Congress’ time was wasted on this intra-party drama, but at least it’s over. As we try to get Congress back to work, many of my constituents are rightfully interested in knowing …  Continue Reading

Government Shutdown Update: A Message from Rep. Huffman

Hello, We are currently anticipating that the federal government will shut down on Sunday, October 1. While the Biden administration and House and Senate leadership reached a budget deal earlier this summer, some extreme MAGA members are holding the government hostage and will no longer vote in support of the deal (more). Unless an agreement is reached, the federal government will run out of funding at the end of this week.   If the government does shut down, our team will still be here to …  Continue Reading

We Can’t Afford Republicans’ Shutdown: A Message from Rep. Huffman

Hello,  Funding the government is one of the most basic responsibilities we have in Congress. However, as we approach the September 30th deadline for passing a government funding package, the most extreme faction of the House Republican Majority is sowing chaos. There is real, pressing work to do to make life better and more affordable for people in America, but instead, the majority is wasting time with political stunts and partisan games. Once again, MAGA Members of Congress are holding the …  Continue Reading

On the Road with Congressman Huffman

Hello,It’s been a busy few weeks for me traveling across California’s beautiful 2nd Congressional District - from Petaluma to Eureka and many places in between.   Last week, I spent time in Covelo where I met with community leaders including the president and council members of Round Valley Indian Tribe. I also toured transformative infrastructure projects the Tribe is working on using federal grants. Thanks to investments from the COVID-19 economic stimulus package, the CARES Act, as well as …  Continue Reading

Wildfire Resources and Resiliency: A Message from Rep. Huffman

Hello,The active wildfires currently burning in the district and the devastating fire in Hawaii serve as timely reminders to be prepared for fires in your neighborhood. What we once considered fire seasons have become an all-year phenomenon. We must tackle this challenge head-on and make our communities more resilient for what’s ahead. As your Representative in Washington, I am doing everything within my power to reduce the threat of future disasters, and getting …  Continue Reading

Have You Been Blindsided by Junk Fees? Take My Survey

Hello, None of us are a stranger to junk fees - at banks, airlines, and concert venues, or for cell phone plans, ATMs, and car sales- we've all fallen victim and know what a frustrating burden they can pose. This price-gouging costs working families hundreds - sometimes thousands - of dollars a year. It’s not only costly and maddening; it’s downright dishonest and makes it harder for folks to pay their bills. It’s time to stop companies from getting away with these unfair overcharges. That’s …  Continue Reading

Federal Dollars in Action: A Message from Rep. Huffman

Hello,  I have some great news to share from Washington – we recently received word that grants from the Environmental Protection Agency are heading our way for Bay Area restoration projects, solar energy expansion, and access to clean water for tribes. This is thanks to historic legislation signed into law during the last two years under the leadership of President Joe Biden and Democrats in Congress. You can expect to see more grants like this rolling in as we continue to deliver …  Continue Reading

Failing to Act on Gun Violence Is Not an Option: A Message from Rep. Huffman

Hello,June is National Gun Violence Awareness Month, a time to honor the lives lost to this epidemic and highlight the urgent need for action. Gun violence is a uniquely American crisis, and it is happening everywhere. The statistics speak for themselves: over 100 lives in the U.S. are lost to this every single day, and firearms are the leading cause of death for children and teens. Already this year there have been over 300 mass shootings. That’s more than one mass shooting every …  Continue Reading

Happy National Oceans Month!: A Message from Rep. Huffman

Hello, and happy National Oceans Month!  Our District has the most beautiful coastlines America has to offer. I’m marking National Ocean’s Month with important legislation, events, and projects. I recently joined federal, state, tribal and local leaders for a Sea Otter Summit in Bodega Bay. We know sea otters are cute. They are also little ecosystem engineers that help maintain a healthy coastline and thriving kelp forests, and we’re seeing the consequences of their …  Continue Reading

Fighting for America’s Economy: A Message from Rep. Huffman

Hello,   With House Republicans threatening to force the first-ever default on our nation’s debt unless President Biden agrees to draconian budget cuts and extreme policy demands, we are at a precarious moment in Congress. I want to make it clear: I am determined to prevent a catastrophic default from happening. That’s why I was among the first to sign a discharge petition to force a vote on a “clean” debt ceiling increase. We now have 213 signatures on that …  Continue Reading
