Although this Congress has been clouded by extreme MAGA chaos from the dysfunctional Republican House majority party, my Democratic colleagues and I have not let it derail our mission to improve the lives of the people we represent. Since President Joe Biden took office, we’ve enacted historic legislation to lower costs, create better-paying jobs, take meaningful climate action, and improve community safety.
Some of our monumental achievements include:
- The Inflation Reduction Act: Provides the largest investment in climate action in American history, cuts U.S. carbon emissions, strengthens energy security, lowers health care costs, and reduces the federal deficit by $300 billion by making corporations pay their fair share.
- The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law: Rebuilds America’s roads, bridges, and rails, expands access to clean drinking water, increases access to high-speed internet, advances environmental justice, and invests in communities that have too often been left behind.
- The Respect for Marriage Act: Enshrines marriage equality into federal law and ensures critical protections for same-sex and interracial marriages.
- The Bipartisan Safer Communities Act: Enhances the background check process, keeps guns out of the hands of prohibited people, funds community-based violence prevention initiatives, and supports state crisis intervention orders.
- The Chips & Science Act: Invests $52.7 billion in American semiconductor research, development, manufacturing, and workforce development, strengthens supply chains, expands domestic manufacturing, creates tens of thousands of well-paying, union jobs, and lowers costs for consumers.
- Honoring our PACT Act: Expands health care and benefits for millions of veterans exposed to burn pits, Agent Orange, and other toxic substances.
