Happy Birthday to Dems’ Climate Law! See What a Difference It’s Made
Hello,
Today marks the second anniversary of Democrats’ historic climate law, the Inflation Reduction Act. This bill, coupled with our landmark Infrastructure Law, has led to the largest investment in climate and clean energy in our nation’s history – and resulted in hundreds of thousands of jobs, more resilient communities, billions of dollars in energy savings, and more. I’m excited to share some incredible progress we’ve made in the fight against climate change and protecting our natural resources – including right here at home in California’s beautiful Second District.
These are some of the latest investments we’ve made in our district thanks to the Biden-Harris administration and Democrats’ climate plan:
- $18.75 million Community Wildfire Defense Grant to help at-risk communities protect their homes, businesses, and infrastructure from wildfires.
- $426 Million to build out the first-of-its-kind offshore wind project on the West Coast in Humboldt Bay, which will boost economic development and move us closer toward our clean energy and grid reliability goals.
- $6 million for large-scale habitat restoration in the Elk River Estuary to increase resilience to sea level rise and protect habitat for the region’s iconic salmon.
- $6.8 million for the Yurok Tribe and Guidiville Rancheria to electrify homes, boosting their clean energy build-out and closing the electricity divide in native communities.
- $8 million for Redwood National Park to support Redwoods Rising’s innovative landscape scale restoration collaborative, to restore both Prairie and Mill Creek Watersheds in Humboldt and Del Norte Counties.
- $88 million to transform the unreliable Hoopa 1101 electricity circuit into a highly resilient renewable energy system.

This just scratches the surface – check out more great projects in our district here, here, and here.
The Inflation Reduction Act is investing in our nation’s history and future by rebuilding and restoring our coastlines, securing clean water for the West, strengthening our response to wildfires, supporting indigenous communities, cleaning up abandoned mines and wells, and securing community and climate benefits that will last for generations.
These investments are being deployed across the country and are already:
- Creating Jobs. With more than 312,900 well-paying clean energy jobs created across 47 states and Puerto Rico, and counting, these investments are sparking a clean energy boom across the country.
- Saving Families Money. From energy efficient home upgrades to electric vehicles, these tax credits and rebates are helping hard-working American families lower their energy bills and transportation costs. Last year, 3.4 million families saved $8.4 billion on clean energy and energy efficiency thanks to the Biden-Harris affordable clean energy plan.
- Investing in Environmental Justice. Through grant programs and the Justice40 Initiative, the clean energy plan is actively driving hundreds of billions of climate and clean energy investments in low-income communities and communities of color that have experienced decades of disinvestment.
- Advancing our Climate Goals. Beyond the benefits to everyday families, these investments are cutting emissions and accelerating our progress towards President Biden and Vice President Harris' ambitious climate goals.
We’ve made historic progress, but this is just the beginning of our work, and I am committed to making sure these investments reach every corner of our district.
