How Trump Hijacked America's 250th Birthday
Hello,
I hope you had a safe and enjoyable Independence Day with your family, friends, and community.
This year, America turned 250. A milestone this big comes once in a lifetime, a chance to reflect on where we've been and where we're headed as a nation. This anniversary belonged to all of us. It should have been a once-in-a-generation celebration that brought our country together.
Instead, our 250th birthday was overshadowed by political influence, private fundraising, and historical revisionism. That's why, ahead of this year's celebrations, I released an oversight report, “From Vanity to Insanity: How the White House Cheated the American People Out of Their 250th Birthday,” exposing how the Trump administration and its allies hijacked America's 250th anniversary for political and personal gain.

Key Findings:
-
Trump put himself at the center of America's 250th birthday, turning a national celebration into a platform for his political agenda and personal brand.
-
Donors may have been misled into supporting Freedom 250 instead of the bipartisan America250 effort Congress established.
-
Freedom 250 sold access to the President and courted foreign money, raising serious ethical and constitutional concerns.
-
Trump's allies profited from the celebration, while Americans' personal information was harvested through Freedom 250 events.
-
Taxpayer dollars were used to promote a whitewashed version of American history, while public servants were pressured to fall in line.
-
Freedom 250 created a blueprint for future abuses, showing how public institutions can be exploited for political and personal gain.

This anniversary was never about one politician or one administration. A few weeks ago, I asked you what America's 250th meant to you, and your responses reminded me what this moment should have really been about. The overwhelming message was that we should be renewing our commitment to the values that make America worth celebrating: protecting our democracy, defending our Constitution, expanding opportunity, respecting the dignity of every person, caring for our communities, preserving our natural treasures, and leaving a better country for the next generation. I couldn't agree more.
Those ideals belong to all Americans, and they are worth celebrating every day, not just on the Fourth of July. As we begin our nation's next 250 years, I'll keep fighting to protect those values and to build an America that lives up to its highest ideals.
