Californians Losing Health Care Because of Republican Crisis

It’s been another week of chaos and confusion amid the Trump shutdown, and I know many of you have real frustrations, fears, and concerns about what Republicans’ reckless policy decisions could mean for our community. I’d like to share with you an update on the state of play and where my head’s at as I keep fighting for you and our community.

TRUMP SHUTDOWN

After choosing to shut down the government instead of negotiating with Democrats to lower health care costs, Republicans have spent over three weeks showing zero interest in getting critical services back up and running – and people are already feeling the impacts. From abandoned national parks to furloughed federal workers to major delays in air travel, the ramifications are real.

But Trump and his Republican minions still refuse to negotiate with Democrats to put an end to this nonsense.

REPUBLICAN HEALTH CARE CRISIS

Republicans created a completely avoidable health care crisis to help out their billionaire donors and friends at major corporations, and people up and down the North Coast are paying the price. Premiums are skyrocketing to unaffordable levels, and hospitals are closing across the country. Republicans need to get back to Washington and work with us to reopen the government and lower the costs before it’s too late.

I’ve heard from single moms who won't be able to afford health care for their children. I’ve heard from elderly people whose prescription medications will be too expensive. I’ve heard from health care workers whose patients won’t be able to pay for care. I am hearing from constituents throughout our district, and I’m more determined than ever to prevent these rising costs in any way that I can. That’s why I refuse to budge during this shutdown – there is simply too much at stake here.
