Rep. Huffman Statement on California’s Request for a Major Disaster Declaration for Flooding Damage

April 15, 2019

Washington, D.C.- In response to the State of California’s request for a major disaster declaration for the widespread damage and flooding caused by atmospheric river storm systems sweeping the North Coast and state beginning in February 2019, Rep. Jared Huffman (D-San Rafael) is spearheading a congressional letter to urge for presidential approval. He released the following statement:

“The recent flooding has rocked our communities, and it is clear that a major disaster declaration is necessary so that the federal government can help California recover from the flood damage that has already overwhelmed state, local, and tribal response capacity. I thank Governor Newson for taking this key step and requesting a major disaster declaration in the areas affected by river storms this year. President Trump should immediately consider this request, and I am working with my colleagues to ensure that swift support and resources are provided to all impacted communities.”
