Stud Point – Bodega Bay Ice-Making Plant
Current equipment at the Spud Point-Bodega Bay ice-making plant is over forty years old and requires costly maintenance every year to ensure this industry has a reliable source of ice to preserve their catch. This funding will help replace the outdated equipment with new, energy-efficient, climate-friendly refrigeration equipment that is critical to the commercial and recreational fishing operations along the Northern California coast.
“Replacing and modernizing the icehouse is foundational to sustaining Bodega Bay’s working waterfront by ensuring reliable infrastructure, supporting fishing livelihoods, strengthening the local economy, and advancing climate-ready coastal facilities. I want to express gratitude to Congressman Huffman for recognizing this challenge facing our fishing community and for his leadership in securing critical funding to move this project forward,” said Bert Whitaker, Director of Sonoma County Regional Parks.
“I am thrilled that our community will soon see this critical investment in the Spud Point Marina Ice-making Plant. This facility is the lifeblood of our local fishing industry, supporting hundreds of small businesses and preserving the economic vitality of Bodega Bay. By upgrading to modern, energy-efficient equipment, we are not only protecting jobs and ensuring the commercial fleet can continue operating efficiently, but we are also taking a meaningful step toward a cleaner future,” added Sonoma County Supervisor Lynda Hopkins. “I thank Congressman Huffman for championing this vital investment in our community. We are grateful for his partnership in Washington.”
