Rep. Huffman Named Natural Resources Committee Vice Ranking Member

January 24, 2017

Washington, D.C.- Today, Democratic members of the House Committee on Natural Resources unanimously elected Congressman Jared Huffman (D-San Rafael) to serve as Vice-Ranking Member of the Committee. He will be the first to serve in this role, which was created by the Democratic Caucus earlier in the year, and will maintain his other leadership role as Ranking Democrat on the Subcommittee on Water, Power, and Oceans.

“I am honored to have this opportunity to serve in this new leadership role in the House Committee on Natural Resources, especially now that clean air and water are under threat like never before,” said Rep. Huffman. “It is clear that President Trump’s radical agenda to expand dirty energy and undermine public health safeguards is out of step with the American people, so we have a lot of work ahead of us. I look forward to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to protect public health, combat climate change with clean energy, and resolve natural resource conflicts.”

“I’m beyond thrilled to have Rep. Huffman serve as the Vice Ranking Member of the Natural Resources Committee and the Ranking Member of the Water, Power and Oceans Subcommittee,” said Ranking Member Grijalva (D-AZ). “Since Jared joined the committee, he’s been a strong voice for the environment, endangered species, fishing jobs, the recreation economy, and the fight against climate change so it makes perfect sense for him to serve in this new leadership role. I’m sure Chairman Rob Bishop is shaking in his seat a little knowing that Huffman will be playing an even larger role on the Committee.”

Earlier this month, the House Democratic Caucus created the position of Vice Ranking Members for all standing committees in the House, a position that will be filled by a newer member of each committee and elected by the Democratic membership of the committee.

While serving as Vice Ranking Member, Rep. Huffman will maintain his role as Ranking Member on the Water, Power, and Oceans Subcommittee. Additionally, he will serve on the Energy and Mineral Resources Subcommittee and the Oversight and Investigation Subcommittee.

During the organizational meeting today of the Democratic members of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, Rep. Huffman was named to the Highways and Transit, Water Resources and Environment, and Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation Subcommittees.
