Rep. Huffman Congratulates North Coast Gold Ribbon Schools Awardees
WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congressman Jared Huffman (D-San Rafael) this week recognized the 2015-16 California Gold Ribbon Schools Awardees from California’s 2nd Congressional District, delivering celebratory remarks at four campuses and providing certificates of recognition to each of the 13 schools earning this distinction.
“The California Gold Ribbon Award is highly sought after by schools across the state, and I’m proud of the schools in my communities and their hard-working students and staff that received this much-deserved recognition,” said Huffman. “I thank these Gold Ribbon schools for the work they do each day to ensure high academic achievement and prepare their students for their college and career choices.”
The Gold Ribbon Schools Awards program replaces the California Distinguished School and is run by the California Department of Education to honor outstanding educational programs and practices in California elementary schools. Of the nearly 6,000 eligible schools in the state, only 780 received the award statewide. Thirteen elementary schools in Huffman’s congressional district received the designation.
During his latest district work period, Huffman visited four of the chosen schools in his district: San Rafael’s Sun Valley School, which was also selected for the National Blue Ribbon Schools competition; Venetia Valley School, also named a Title I Academic Achieving School; Hamilton School in Novato; and Alice Birney Elementary School in Eureka.
Other 2015-16 awardees in Huffman’s North Coast district include Glenwood Elementary School, Mary E. Silveira Elementary School and Vallecito Elementary in San Rafael, Bacich Elementary in Greenbrae, The Cove School in Corte Madera, Ross Elementary School in Ross, Gravenstein Elementary School in Sebastopol, Arena Elementary School in Point Arena, and Pacific Union Elementary School in Arcata.
