Rep. Huffman Celebrates Inauguration of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris

January 20, 2021

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Jared Huffman (D-San Rafael) released a statement following the inauguration of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris:

“The inauguration of President Biden and Vice-President Harris is a turning point for our country – the first page in a new chapter of unity, integrity, and progress,” said Rep. Huffman. “After four years of chaos and corruption under the Trump administration, it was an honor to attend this historic celebration to usher in the new and more hopeful time for our nation. Despite years of constant threats to our democracy by Donald Trump and his enablers, our democratic republic has prevailed.

“The new Biden-Harris administration has inherited staggering challenges – a deadly pandemic, a broken economy, the urgent climate crisis, and the most divided nation in modern memory. But this period of unprecedented challenges provides us with an opportunity for historic progress. With President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris in office and a Democratic majority controlling the Senate and the House, I am confident we will be able to meet these problems head-on with action guided by facts, science, decency, and the urgency they demand.

“I am acutely aware that the divisive, grievance politics of Trumpism will not end today. It is clear there are Republicans who will fight to keep it going. But I have hope that the majority of others – lawmakers and most of their constituents – will want to unite under President Biden to address the serious problems we face.

“This opportunity to move forward in a better direction was hard-earned by every single person who worked to secure it. With new leaders and a new resolve, we begin that journey today,” Rep. Huffman concluded.
