Committee Approves Huffman-Cosponsored Bipartisan Budget Reform Bill

February 11, 2014

WASHINGTON—Today the House Budget Committee approved the bipartisan Biennial Budgeting and Enhanced Oversight Act (H.R. 1869), which is cosponsored by Congressman Jared Huffman (D-San Rafael). The bill would convert the federal government to a two-year budget cycle, alleviating much of the uncertainty caused by the current annual budget cycle.

“Congress should have a long-term budget plan rather than relying on the chaotic, crisis-by-crisis budgeting process we have now. This bill would create an orderly 2-year process that allows Congress additional oversight opportunities.” Congressman Huffman said. “I’m glad that this bipartisan, commonsense bill was overwhelmingly passed out of committee today. While this would be an important reform to our budget process, we are still obligated to rise above the petty politics that have contributed to the budget disarray of the last few years.
