Rep. Jared Huffman reveals 2022 Congressional Art Competition winners and finalists

WASHINGTON D.C. — Congressman Jared Huffman announced Zexuan Wu of San Anselmo as the winner of the 2022 Congressional Art Competition, "An Artistic Discovery," for California's Second District.

Wu's piece titled "We are the Keeper of Tomorrow" will hang in the U. S Capitol for one year along with other art pieces from each congressional district across the country.

“Every year, the Congressional Art Competition serves as a testament to our students’ creative talents,” Rep. Huffman said. “I want to thank the many artists who submitted their work this year and extend a heartfelt congratulations to our winner: Zexuan Wu. I’m so impressed by the creativity and skill exhibited by our North Coast students, and I look forward to seeing Zexuan’s portrait in the halls of Congress.”

Wu will also receive round-trip airfare to Washington D.C. to attend the awards ceremony. All other finalists will receive a certificate of recognition for their entries. The submissions were judged based on color and technique.

The finalists include:

  • Brandy Schollard, Del Norte Finalist, Sunset High School - "Beacon in the Storm"
  • Ivy Cleek, Humboldt Finalist, Fortuna Union High School - "Behind the Glass"
  • Songe Kvinsland, Mendocino Finalist, Mendocino Community High School - "The Elders"
  • Derek Zhou, Sonoma Finalist, Casa Grande High School - "Self-Portrait: Reflect and Aspire"

The competition has been held by the United States Congress every year since 1982 with more than 650,000 high school students participating in the contest since it first began.
