Court invalidates Trump suspension of offshore wind permits
A U.S. District Court decision has vacated the Trump administration’s “Temporary Withdrawal of All Areas on the Outer Continental Shelf From Offshore Wind Leasing and Review of the Federal Government’s Leasing and Permitting Practices for Wind Projects” executive memorandum this week, declaring the January order “arbitrary and capricious and contrary to law.”
The memo directed the Interior Department to indefinitely withdraw all offshore wind leases and “conduct a comprehensive review of the ecological, economic and environmental necessity of terminating or amending any existing wind energy leases.”
District Judge Patti B. Saris declared that the order was contrary to law and would be vacated in a decision filed Monday.
