Angel Island gets $1.5 mil federal grant for Ayala Cove dock upgrade

May 22, 2024

Angel Island State Park has received a $1.5-million federal grant toward upgrading the dilapidated boat dock at Ayala Cove.

The funding, announced May 13 by Rep. Jared Huffman, D-San Rafael, comes from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Boating Infrastructure Grant program.

The state park will combine the grant with $1.2 million in funding from the California Department of Parks and Recreation to complete the $2.7 million overhaul, according to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

The planned work includes increasing the number of boat slips at the dock, which sits in what is considered the main entrance to the park, to 48 from 42. The new facilities will also comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act and have both lighting and potable fresh water, according to the release.
