Rep. Huffman Statement on Vote on Toxic Substances Control Act
Congressman Huffman (D-San Rafael) issued the following statement after he voted against the legislation to overhaul the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) which passed the House today:
“This bill represents a vast improvement over the status quo and I want to recognize all the good work in the House and Senate that went into this legislation over many years of negotiations. My concern as joint author of AB 1879, the California law, that required the Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) to proactively identify and regulate chemicals of concern is that potential future actions by California could be preempted or delayed without adequate assurance that the new federal process would be prompt, effective, and appropriately funded. I will work with EPA, the State of California, and relevant stakeholders to ensure strong implementation of the legislation moving forward.”
