Rep. Huffman Introduces Resolution to Designate ‘National Day of Reason’

April 26, 2018

Washington, D.C.-  To celebrate the importance of rational thought, science, and logic in public policy decisions, Representative Jared Huffman (D-San Rafael), today offered a resolution to designate May 3rd as a National Day of Reason.

“President Trump and his cabinet have launched an all-out war on science, reason, and logic, while attacking those of different faiths, beliefs, and backgrounds,” said Rep. Huffman. “Now more than ever before, it’s clear that we need to reaffirm our nation’s founding principle of the separation of church and state. A National Day of Reason offers an inclusive alternative for humanists, atheists, nonreligious, and freethinkers alike to celebrate reason in the public sphere and allow the secular community to inspire positive change.”

The National Day of Reason would be observed on the same day as the congressionally designated National Day of Prayer.

The resolution is cosponsored by Representatives Mark Pocan (D-WI), Zoe Lofgren (D-CA), and Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC)
