Rep. Huffman Highlights 48th Anniversary of Medicare
WASHINGTON—Today, Congressman Jared Huffman (D-San Rafael) released the following statement in celebration of the 48th anniversary of the enactment of Medicare. President Lyndon Johnson signed Medicare into law on July 30, 1965.
“For 48 years, American seniors have worked hard and paid into Medicare, and when they retire they count on the government to honor its end of the bargain,” Congressman Huffman said. “My 83-year-old mom is like millions of seniors around this country. She did her part, paid into the system, and relies on Medicare. I intend to make sure that our government honors its promise to our seniors, and will continue to work to sustain, strengthen, and protect Medicare on for all Americans.”
Happy 48th birthday to #Medicare & #Medicaid. Let's ensure they’re protected for seniors & the next generation of Americans.
