Rep. Huffman Applauds Proposal to Retire Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant
WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congressman Jared Huffman (D-San Rafael) issued the following statement today in response to PG&E’s Joint Proposal with environmental and labor organizations to phase out their production of nuclear power at California’s last nuclear power plant, Diablo Canyon:
“I am very encouraged by this announcement of a partnership between PG&E, environmental groups, and labor unions to retire the Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant and invest instead in cleaner and safer sources of energy,” said Rep. Huffman. “I applaud PG&E for going above and beyond current state mandates and committing to 55% renewable energy by 2031. For decades, California has led the nation in the transition to a clean and sustainable energy future, and today’s important proposal will take another big step in that direction by phasing out nuclear power and making our power production significantly cleaner and safer.”
