Rep. Huffman Announces Nearly $5.5 Million in Federal Grants for New Terminal at Jack McNamara Field Airport

June 17, 2016

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congressman Jared Huffman (D-San Rafael) today announced that the Federal Aviation Administration has awarded nearly $5.5 million to the Jack McNamara Field Airport, a nonhub primary airport located in Crescent City, California. This grant will provide funding for the construction of an approximately 16,000 square foot terminal building to meet increased operational and passenger space needs, along with the realignment and reconstruction of Dale Rupert Road and installation of utilities.

“I’m glad to see continued support for airports like the Jack McNamara Field, which provides essential access and services to people living in rural areas across Del Norte County,” said Huffman. “Building this terminal will encourage tourism and economic development, and the facility improvements will help ensure continued aircraft and passenger safety.”

The project represents the culmination of more than a decade of efforts by the Boarder Coast Regional Airport Authority, which manages the Jack McNamara Field.

“Our new terminal will serve the Border Coast region for the decades to come and foster continued economic growth while enhancing our regional quality of life. It will showcase both the natural majesty and vibrant culture of our area, creating a very positive first impression for countless travelers," said David Finigan, Chairman of the Border Coast Regional Airport Authority.

"We're building this terminal together as a community. A community comprised of cities, counties, states and sovereign nations because we believe that when communities build airports, airports build communities," said Airport Director Matthew Leitner.

Huffman represents California’s second district, which covers six counties including all of Marin, Mendocino, Humboldt, Trinity, and Del Norte, and much of Sonoma Counties. He is a member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure and the Committee on Natural Resources.
