Huffman Visits Laytonville High School
LAYTONVILLE, CA—Today, Congressman Jared Huffman toured Laytonville High School and participated in an assembly recognizing students for participation in the Congressional Art Competition and the Veterans History Project. Photos from the event will be located HERE.
“I enjoyed my visit to Laytonville High School, and was very impressed by all the students and teachers I met,” Congressman Huffman said. “I’m proud that students participated in the Congressional Art Competition and the Veterans History Project, which will help preserve the stories of our veterans for future generations.”
At the assembly, Huffman presented certificates to participants in the Congressional Art Competition. “An Artistic Discovery" is the annual art contest held by the United States Congress since 1982. The winning artwork, which was announced this Monday, will be exhibited in the U.S. Capitol Building for one year alongside artwork from each Congressional District in the country.
Huffman also recognized the veterans from Laytonville, Willits and Potter Valley as well as the students that participated in the Veterans History Project, which archives their videos in the Library of Congress for posterity. The Veterans History Project was created by Congress in 2000 to collect, preserve and make accessible the personal accounts of American war veterans so that future generations may hear directly from veterans and better understand the realities of war. Students from Laytonville High school recorded interviews with local veterans, and a selection of the videos were shown at the assembly.
