January 23, 2014

Fort Bragg, CA—Congressman Jared Huffman (D-San Rafael) today presented Bruce Erickson and Maggie Watson, owners of Mendocino Solar Service, with his Sustainable North Coast Certificate in recognition of their ongoing commitment to reduce carbon emissions, increase renewable power, and fight climate change. Photos of the event will be available HERE.

“Mendocino Solar Service is a pioneer in renewable energy and demonstrates a dedication to environmentally-friendly practices and community involvement that should serve as a model for businesses across the United States,” Congressman Huffman said. “Mendocino Solar Service has thrived under Bruce and Maggie’s conscientious, innovative and energetic leadership and I am looking forward to seeing what they accomplish in the coming years.”

Mendocino Solar Service was one of the first solar service providers on the coast and was purchased by Bruce and Maggie 17 years ago. Mendocino Solar Service sponsors many local programs such as High School basketball, Gloriana, and the Earth Day with Noyo Food Forest.  Bruce and Maggie are involved in the Mendocino Coast Chamber and Mendocino Coast Transition Town.

Throughout his tenure in the California State Assembly, Congressman Huffman regularly toured and recognized outstanding sustainable local businesses, and has continued this practice as a member of Congress.

In the House, Congressman Huffman serves as Chair of the Progressive Caucus Task Force on Energy and the Environment; a Member of the Sustainable Energy and the Environment Coalition Caucus; and a Member of the Safe Climate Caucus. He has spoken regularly on the House floor about the need to address climate change and protect the environment.
