Audience encouraged to join campaign finance reform efforts currently underway

SAN RAFAEL, CA– Today Congressman Jared Huffman (D-CA) and Congressman John B. Larson (D-CT), Chairman of the Task Force on Election Reform, hosted a public forum on election reform at Dominican University of California.

“The average American’s voice is being drowned out by special interests that have the ability to spend unlimited amounts of secret money to get their favored candidate elected,” Congressman Huffman said. “Today’s forum was a frank discussion of what’s wrong with America’s campaigns and elections and what we can do to fix it."

"From coast to coast the American people are calling for Congress to fix our broken electoral system," said Congressman Larson. "I was pleased to join Congressman Huffman today to inform his community on the work of the Task Force on Election Reform and discuss what Congress is doing to take big money influence out of politics."

Huffman and Larson joined Phillip Ung of Common Cause, Emily Rusch of CALPIRG, Sonoma State University Professor Dave McCuan, and students from Dominican College, College of Marin, and Sonoma State University along with other experts and community leaders. The forum was moderated by Mary B. Marcy, President, Dominican University of California and audience members had the opportunity to ask questions.

Huffman is an active member of the Task Force on Election Reform, and has co-sponsored numerous legislative efforts to reform and improve the nation’s campaign finance system and election administration.
