We Have a Winner! A Message from Rep. Huffman on the Homemade Mask Contest

February 17, 2021

Hello,

Thank you again to all who participated in our mask competition. We had an amazing number of submissions. The votes have been tallied, and I’m excited to congratulate our winner, Chris P! Chris is an Eagle Scout in Marin county who created homemade masks for over 800 pediatric patients at the UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital.

Back in June, before child-sized masks were readily available to the public, Chris designed and sewed hundreds of masks. His kid-friendly designs featured superheroes, animals, sports, and other fun patterns. Chris took this process a step further when he created a video demonstrating how to properly wear a mask. Through creativity and compassion Chris contributed to the well-being of our community, protecting hundreds from the spread of COVID-19.

Thank you to all who submitted their mask creations. From masks celebrating Zoom weddings and holidays, to those made from recycled clothing or emulating nature, this competition showcased so many inventive creations. And I was not surprised to see that many of you made masks for fellow community members. Together we can crush COVID-19.

The upcoming months will be instrumental in fighting the pandemic and protecting lives, and I encourage everyone to follow public health recommendations, wear a mask in public spaces, wash your hands frequently, and continue social distancing. We are not out of the woods yet, and doing our part to slow the spread is critical. Find more information on COVID-19 resources for the constituents of California’s Second Congressional District here.
