Rep. Huffman visits Mendo’s assistance center, talks ICE

Congressman Jared Huffman made a visit to the Mendocino Board of Supervisors’ meeting on Tuesday to give an update on the rebuilding efforts, then visited the newly opened Local Assistance Center at Mendocino College. Huffman, along with North Coast representatives State Senator Mike McGuire and Assemblyman Jim Wood, has made several visits to Mendocino County over the last week to provide updates on state and federal efforts to help people impacted by the Mendocino-Lake Complex fire.

During the Board of Supervisors’ meeting on Tuesday, Huffman assured the supervisors he would help get clean-up and rebuilding resources, such as CalRecycle, to people who need assistance in the coming days.

At the Local Assistance Center on Tuesday, Huffman spoke about his efforts to get federal assistance to Mendocino County during the fire, and talked about how immigration status might impact what resources are available to people affected by the fires. Last week, Huffman issued a statement assuring people that ICE would not be conducting immigration enforcement raids during the fires, which had been an ongoing concern for many evacuees.
