BOEM announces December auction date for offshore wind leases
The last quarter of this year is going to be a big one for offshore wind energy on the West Coast, and the head of the harbor district says that makes it “an absolutely exciting time for the port of Humboldt Bay.”
“There’s a number of really exciting and key decisions that are going to start happening one after another over the next few months,” Larry Oetker, executive director of the Humboldt Bay Harbor, Recreation and Conservation District, told The Times-Standard.

On Tuesday, the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management announced that the first-ever West Coast auction for offshore wind leases is set for Dec. 6.

“I’ve always advocated for a swift transition to clean energy to meet our climate goals, and offshore wind meets the mark — not only with clean, green energy production but also boosting our local economies and creating jobs,” Rep. Jared Huffman (D-San Rafael) said in a statement. “I’ve worked with community leaders and stakeholders to identify an agreement that would directly benefit the constituents of California’s 2nd Congressional District, and this final sale notice thankfully includes many of our goals. I’ll continue to work with the administration to make sure our constituents are getting a deal that’s good for them and the planet.”
