Washington, D.C. – Today, Representative Jared Huffman (D-San Rafael), member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, voted to pass the Investing in a New Vision for the Environment and Surface Transportation in America (INVEST in America) Act, which includes over $24.4 million in funding for projects serving California’s Second Congressional District. Rep. Huffman successfully advocated to ensure the projects were included in the INVEST in America Act, which makes transformational investments in America’s highways, roads, bridges, transit, rail, and water infrastructure to create jobs, modernize our infrastructure and reduce carbon pollution. This legislation puts some of the key pieces of President Joe Biden’s infrastructure vision into legislative text.
“It is important that this five-year surface transportation reauthorization invests in a cleaner, greener transportation future while helping create great-paying jobs for American workers,” Rep. Huffman said on the House Floor. “Through an open, transparent process, Member Designated Projects will ensure that the elected representatives of the people have at least some say on which surface transportation projects get funding. In my district that means expanding SMART rail service into Healdsburg and further north, closing gaps in the pedestrian and bike pathways along the San Francisco Bay Trail, providing ADA accessibility and educational signage at the Mouth of Smith River Overlook, and planning for a safe pedestrian crossing for the San Rafael Channel.”
