Trump Administration Oversight
One of the most important legislative powers enshrined in the Constitution is for Congress to conduct thorough oversight of the White House and executive branch. This power is central to our system of checks and balances. The 116th Congress is a new opportunity to hold officials of the Trump Administration accountable for their decisions, and to ensure that the President is upholding our nation’s laws and values.
Protecting Special Counsel Mueller and the Russia Investigation:
I unequivocally support the continued independent, nonpartisan investigation into the extent of Russian influence in the 2016 election. President Trump has exhibited a pattern of alarming behavior directed at undermining Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation. President Trump continuously acts as if he has something to hide, which underscores the need to get the facts out and follow the evidence, no matter where it leads. I will continue to fight for the protection of the special counsel’s work, because Congress and the American people deserve to know the truth.
Articles of Impeachment:
In the 115th Congress, I joined as a cosponsor of Articles of Impeachment introduced by Rep. Steve Cohen, and voted on the House floor to consider impeachment.
Every member of the House of Representatives pledges to support and defend the Constitution of the United States when we are sworn into office. That carries with it the responsibility to provide checks and balances on executive power, and in exceptional circumstances, to impeach a President who has violated the law or abused power to the serious detriment of our country.
I have cosponsored articles of impeachment that focus on the most serious and egregious examples of President Trump’s impeachable actions: his obstruction of justice, his unprecedented conflicts of interest, his unwillingness or inability to credibly and forthrightly address Russia's interference in the 2016 election, and his recklessness with matters of national security.
