They might walk a little slower than they did 60-some years ago when their boots met the Korean Peninsula, but they move with the same resolve and determination.

The names of more than 100 Korean War veterans were read Saturday in Eureka at a ceremony to remember the men and women who served during what some have called “The Forgotten War.”

U.S. Congressman Jared Huffman will be in Del Norte this week to meet with local veterans, youth, public officials and, if he’s lucky, steelhead trout.

WASHINGTON­—Today, Congressman Jared Huffman (D-San Rafael) voted  for the Veterans Access, Choice & Accountability Act of 2014 (H.R. 3230), which would provide accountability and access to care for veterans at the Department of Veterans Affairs. The bill provides $15 billion in emergency funding to the VA as well as a critical provision to enable many rural North Coast veterans who live 40+ miles from a VA facility to get their health care outside of the VA. The bill provides $1.012 trillion for the operation of the federal government and avoids a government shutdown. It passed by a bipartisan vote of 359-67.
