Dear Friend, 

In August, I had the opportunity to spend the month traveling up and down the North Coast and connect with you all and hear about your priorities for the fall session of Congress. Each time I’m home, I am reaffirmed in my belief that the second district of California is the most beautiful in the whole country (a fact which I often brag about to my Congressional colleagues)!

These breaks in the voting schedule are the perfect opportunity to hear about your priorities and to brainstorm with you on how I can better serve you.

We haven’t talked about it much here on the North Coast but according to the World Health Organization nearly four million people could be infected with the Zika virus by the end of this year; with the epicenter being Puerto Rico. The territory is in major debt and on the verge of an economic collapse. Local 2nd District Congressman Jared Huffman says the two issues go hand-in-hand, and with up to 5% of the Puerto Rican population coming into the Continental U.S. each year, Congress needs to provide a solution.

Four Mendocino County community health clinics were awarded approximately $5.5 million in federal funds Thursday, U.S. Rep. Jared Huffman, D-San Rafael, announced.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Health Resources and Services Administration awarded more than $16 million in one-time discretionary funds to 11 health centers throughout the North Coast.

The funding is expected to be used to support the ongoing work performed by the health centers, which provide primary and preventive medical services to underserved areas, according to Huffman’s office.

Two of Marin’s federally qualified health clinics received confirmation Thursday they will receive their full year’s funding from the federal Health Resources and Services Administration.

Marin Community Clinics was notified it will receive an additional $1.55 million this year, and the Coastal Health Alliance received word it will get an additional $1.15 million.

A heartfelt thank you is deserved to Congressman Jared Huffman for attending the Coffee and Conversation with Congress event on March 7 at Novato’s LifeLong Medical Care Marin Adult Day Health Center, sponsored by the Alzheimer’s Association.

Rep. Jared Huffman says he is urging state insurance regulators and the head of California's health care insurance exchange to address concerns that the physician networks available under new Affordable Care Act insurance plans lack sufficient participating doctors.
